Anglo Saxon Camp at Eaton Vale
Summer Camp 2025
The Cubs went to the Hallowtree near Ipswich, for their summer camp at the end of July. It is a big campsite which overlooks the river Orwell and is equiped with a climbing wall, pedal-karting, archery and lateral-thinking challenges amongst other things.

Some of the cubs learnt that if you kick a wasp's nest you get stung.
Or rather, they didn't learn (probably because those doing the kicking weren't the one that got stung) so they had to relearn that lesson, this time learning not to throw sticks at wasp nests
We went on a day trip to Sutton Hoo where we enjoyed the wargaming tables who were recreating Anglo Saxon battles with scale model armies, dice and rulers, and had a go at painting our own Anglo Saxon warriors to take home. We had a dedicated tour to the burial mounds and climbed to the top of the observation tower to see the tombs of these long dead kings
None of it would have been possible without the fabulous help of the the camp volunteers (Steve, Kate, the 28th cub and beaver leaders and some cub Mums and Dads) who rotated through the kitchen over the camp to keep everyone well fed and watered (including endless cups of leaders' tea)
